Meet EO Member
Lori Gibson, Founder of Compassionate Care
We are a local small business that provides 24/7 in home pet euthanasia and eco-friendly pet cremation in the greater Portland, Vancouver, and Salem areas and beyond. Since 2009, we have helped to guide and support thousands of families and their pets with peace and ease during a very difficult time. We've earned an exceptional reputation in the veterinary and pet-loving community, and we are committed to being the best employer we can be as well.
>What sets your business apart?
Since inception, our euthanasia service has been available 24/7. We were also the first cremation provider in the Portland area to offer Aquamation, which is water-based cremation that uses substantially less energy and emits no greenhouse gas emissions compared to flame-based cremation.
>How do you unwind at the end of a long day?
I love to read books (business books and non-fiction are my favs) preferably at my house on the coast whenever I can.
>What was your first job?
I worked in concessions and the box office at Gresham Cinemas. I met my first boyfriend there, and learned a lot about bad bosses. It was actually a fun and perfect job for a high schooler.
>What's a critical mistake you made that became a major learning moment?
I think trying to create a job AROUND someone is a mistake we made more than once - it rarely works. That was a lesson in how bending over backwards for employees is not a good precedent to set.
>Anything else you'd like to share?
I can't imagine where we'd be had I not joined EO - the people I've met, friends I've made, stories I've heard and resources I've gained have been absolutely invaluable to my business and to me personally.
